Recovery

When you return home, ensure your recovery gets off to a good start by taking good care of yourself. An AAMC nurse will call you within 24 to 48 hours after your procedure to check in and answer any questions. In the days right after surgery:

• Get plenty of rest.
• Don’t drive a car, smoke, drink alcoholic beverages, operate heavy machinery or cook for 24 hours after surgery.
• Don’t sign any important papers or make any significant decisions as the effects of anesthesia and pain medicine may impair your thinking.
• Follow the instructions on your discharge sheet on diet, rest, medication and activity.
• If you’re experiencing problems, call your doctor. If you feel the problem may be an emergency, call 911.

While many major health plans cover procedures performed at AAMC, most people owe a portion of their bill. You can pay with cash, personal check, VISA, MasterCard, Discover or American Express. You also receive separate bills from your doctor and for certain services you receive at AAMC, such as anesthesia, radiology, cardiology, pathology and nuclear medicine. Your insurance may not cover some of these services. If you have any questions about insurance coverage or payment, call our Patient Financial Services team at 443-481-6500.

For cosmetic surgery procedures, you pay any fees before surgery. On the day of surgery, you can pay with cash, cashier’s checks, money orders, VISA and MasterCard. We cannot accept personal checks on the day of surgery.

Nobody wants to feel pain. Our pain management team does everything they can to ensure your comfort. It’s important to tell us when you’re feeling pain so we can treat it quickly and effectively. You’ll receive more information about pain management when you arrive.
