    The Day of Surgery

    Arrival

    If your surgery or procedure is in Hospital Pavilion South:

    • When you and your caregiver arrive at the hospital, park in Garage A.
    • Check in at the front desk at the Hospital Pavilion South surgical waiting area on the second floor.

    If your surgery or procedure is in Hospital Pavilion North:

    • When you and your caregiver arrive at the hospital, park in Garage C.
    • Check in at the front desk at the Hospital Pavilion North surgical waiting area on the second floor.

    If your surgery or procedure is in the Edwards Pavilion:

    • When you and your caregiver arrive at the hospital, park in Garage C.
    • Check in at the front desk at the Edwards Pavilion surgical waiting area on the first floor.

    If your surgery or procedure is in the Wayson Pavilion:

    • When you and your caregiver arrive at the hospital, park in Garage B.
    • Check in at the PAT front desk at the Wayson Pavilion, Suite G60, on the first floor.

    • Take your medications as the nurse directed in your pre-op interview.
    • Don’t eat or drink anything after midnight the night before. This includes water, coffee, tea, juice, gum, mints and candy. You may brush your teeth and use mouthwash in the morning, but don’t swallow anything.
    • Shower or bathe, but don’t use body lotion, perfumes or makeup.
    • Don’t wear headbands, hairpins, jewelry, contact lenses, etc.
    • Remove all body piercings.
    • Wear comfortable clothes, such as sweatsuits and button-down shirts or blouses, that are loose enough to cover a large bandage after surgery.
    • Wear comfortable shoes (no high heels).
    • Bring your photo ID (driver’s license), insurance card, living will and power of attorney, if you have them.
    • Leave all your valuables at home, such as jewelry and extra cash. However, you may want some money for incidentals. AAMC is not responsible for damaged or lost property.
    • Bring any x-rays or other papers, according to your doctor’s instructions.
    • Arrange for someone to drive you home from the hospital after your procedure and have someone stay with you for the first 24 hours. For safety reasons, we cannot perform your procedure if you don’t arrange for transportation home.
